| Mission and Overview
Earning a college degree greatly increases a student’s opportunity for success. For this reason the Foundation established a college scholarship program for graduates of Twin Cities area high schools. Almost $500,000 in scholarship support will be provided to students between 2003 and 2006.
The Horatio Alger Association, located in Washington, DC, administers the program. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a student’s integrity, self-reliance, determination and perseverance in overcoming adversity. Other factors considered include financial need, academic achievement, and personal potential.
Twin Cities area high school guidance counselors are notified about these scholarships at the beginning of each school year. Completed applications are usually due in late October or early November. For more information, students should visit their high school guidance counselor or www.horatioalger.com.
