Mission and Overview
Earning a college degree greatly increases a student’s opportunity for success, so the Foundation established a college scholarship program for Twin Cities area high school graduates. More than $2 million will be provided to Minnesota high school students between 2003 and 2011.
The Horatio Alger Association, located in Washington, DC, fully administers the program. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a student’s integrity, self-reliance, determination, and perseverance in overcoming adversity. Other factors taken into consideration include financial need, academic achievement, personal potential, and major life issues.
Twin Cities area high school guidance counselors are notified of these scholarships at the beginning of each school year. Completed applications are sent directly to Horatio Alger Association. For more information on this scholarship program, students should visit their high school guidance counselor or the Horatio Alger Association website at www.horatioalger.com.
